Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has disclosed that sport is a key to youth development while also reaffirming the state's commitment to the annual ITTF Challenge Plus Nigeria Open. Receiving the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) delegation led by its Executive Vice President, Dr. Alaa Meshref, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the hosting of the tournaments has put Lagos on the world map with players across the world eager to be part of the competition. Nigeria Open is the third tournament in the last one week to be staged in Lagos and the Governor however, reaffirmed support to the championship. President of the  Nigeria Olympic Committee  (NOC), Engr. Habu Gumel has mandated the newly inaugurated medical and scientific commission to ensure Nigeria win clean medals ahead of the 2019 African Games scheduled for Rabat Morocco. Speaking at the inauguration of the medical and scientific commission, Gumel, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) revealed that the NOC will work hand in hand with the commission in keeping Nigerian athletes physical and psychological ready for the games. The southwest zonal elimination for National Sports Festival has reach the top gear as teams expected to participates across the zone arrived Obafemi Awolowo stadium Ibadan, Oyo state capital yesterday and today. The event which is slated between 18th-20th October is expected to produced zonal champions in team sport like football, basketball, volley ball, handball, Abula, cricket etc for the December 6 to December 16 National Sports Festival in Abuja. Teams and delegate from Lagos, Ogun and the host state Oyo are already on ground while the event coordinators are doing their best to sort out accommodation and other essential logistics has athletes are seen being usher to their hostel.
